When to hire a website copywriting agency

A website copywriting agency earns its fee when your site describes what you do but not why anyone should choose you. Typical signs are service pages that read like a list, a homepage written by committee, or a redesign about to launch with placeholder text.

It also helps when the people who know the business best are too close to it. We ask the questions a sceptical buyer would ask, then write the answers in plain English. A website copywriter outside the business hears the jargon you no longer notice.

Messaging comes before page copy

We don't start with the homepage. We start with a short messaging document: who you help, the problem you solve, what makes you different and the proof that backs it up.

Once that's agreed, every page draws from it, so the site sounds like one business rather than five writers. If the positioning itself is unclear, we can work through it with you first as part of our branding service.

We also agree the tone of voice at this stage, with a few example lines showing how you sound and how you don't. It saves rounds of edits later.

Service pages that do the selling

Service pages usually carry the most commercial intent on a site, so they get the most attention. Each one covers who the service is for, what's included, how it works, how it's priced and what to do next. Proof, such as projects or reviews you can stand behind, sits next to the claims it supports.

We wrote every page of GT Osborne's 35-page site this way, including a page for each area the business covers. Our guide to turning service pages into sales tools explains the method in more detail.

Writing for search without writing for robots

Google says it has no preferred word count and that content should be made mainly for people, so we write to answer the question fully, not to hit a length. Each page has one target phrase and a few close variants, used where they read naturally.

Titles and meta descriptions matter too. Google builds title links from several sources, including the title element, the main visible title and heading elements, and creates snippets mainly from page content, using the meta description when it describes the page better, so we write all three to agree.

Copy that works beyond the website

Good messaging should outlive the launch. Your tone of voice notes and key messages feed straight into blog posts, emails, ads and sales decks, and our content marketing service can keep that going month to month.

We also hand over the SEO brief for each page, so future edits keep the target phrase and structure intact. When you add a new service later, the brief shows how to write it in the same voice.

What to have ready

Bring your current site or brochure, a few customer reviews, any sales emails that win work and a list of the services you most want to sell. Access to Search Console helps us see which phrases already bring visitors.

Missing some of that? The interview fills most of the gaps, and we'll tell you early if something like a case study or price guide would strengthen a page.

How we work

©2026 the think

01 — Interview

We interview you and, where useful, a few customers, and read your reviews, sales emails and current site to learn how buyers describe the problem.

02 — Message

We agree your value proposition, key messages and tone of voice, then map which page answers which question.

03 — Draft

We write full page drafts with an SEO brief for each, including headings and metadata, in the order the design will use.

04 — Refine

You review each page, we work through two rounds of edits, then hand over final copy ready for the design or your CMS.

Pricing & FAQ

Website copywriting pricing.®

Every project is quoted as a fixed fee once we've agreed the page list and the research involved. A small site usually takes 2 to 4 weeks.

How much does website copywriting cost?

A fixed fee based on page count, research and whether we're writing from scratch or reworking existing copy, quoted once the page list is agreed.

How long does it take to write a website?

A small site usually takes 2 to 4 weeks, including the interview, drafts and two rounds of edits. Larger sites are written in batches, highest-value pages first.

Do you write SEO copy?

Yes. Each page gets a target phrase based on what customers search for, with headings, title tag and meta description to match. We never pad pages with keywords.

How do you learn about our business?

Through an interview with you, a look at what customers say in reviews and emails, and, where useful, a few short customer calls.

Can you match our existing tone of voice?

Yes. We can write to your current guidelines, or define a tone of voice with you if it only exists in your head.

Why use a website copywriting agency rather than a freelance website copywriter?

Both can write well. With an agency like ours, messaging, SEO planning and design sit in one team, so copy and layout are planned together.

Can you write copy for a site we're redesigning?

Yes, and it's the best time. Layouts get built around real words, and we keep the pages and phrases that already bring visitors while improving the rest.

Can you improve our existing copy rather than start again?

Yes. We keep what works and rewrite the sections that are vague, repetitive or missing answers buyers need.
