What a good local SEO agency actually does
When to hire a local SEO agency
A local SEO agency is worth hiring when your customers search with a place in mind: trades, builders, cleaners, clinics, studios, accountants and shops. If people type your service plus a town, or add 'near me', you are competing in local search.
It should be a priority when most of your work comes from a defined area and competitors sit above you in the map pack. If you sell nationally online, our wider SEO and growth marketing work is the better fit.
How Google ranks local search results
Google says local results are based mainly on three things. Relevance is how well your profile matches the search, distance is how far you are from the person searching, and prominence is how well known your business is.
You can't move your premises, and Google is clear there is no way to pay for a better local ranking. So the work goes into relevance and prominence: a complete profile, pages that match each service and place, and a steady flow of genuine reviews.
Google Business Profile optimisation, done properly
We start with what Google asks for: a verified profile, accurate business details, services, opening hours including special hours, and real photos and videos. Google says businesses with complete and accurate information are more likely to show up in local results.
We also keep the profile within the rules. Your business name can't include extra details such as services or locations, virtual offices aren't eligible, and if you travel to customers your address comes off the profile and up to 20 service areas go on instead.
Area pages that aren't thin
Area pages help your website rank for the places you work. Google treats pages aimed at different cities that funnel visitors to one place as doorway abuse, so a find-and-replace template is a risk, not a shortcut.
Each page we write covers the services you offer there, local detail and a clear next step. For Mould Matters that meant more than 130 location pages, from London boroughs to towns in Kent and Surrey, and for Denver Electrical 33 London area pages alongside 50 blog articles.
Reviews, listings and the technical layer
Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help your local ranking. We give you a simple routine for asking every customer and help you reply to each review, because Google's policy bans incentives and asking only happy customers.
We tidy your business details on key directories so they match your profile, and add LocalBusiness structured data so Google can read details such as your opening hours. Crawling, redirects and site structure sit with our technical SEO service.
How we measure results, and what to have ready
You get regular reports on a schedule we agree with you, showing the calls, website clicks and direction requests your profile generates, the search terms people used to find you, rankings for your key service and area searches, and the enquiries your pages produce.
To start, have your Google Business Profile login (or we can help you find it), access to your website and analytics, and a list of the services and areas that matter most. Photos of your team and your work help too.

Pricing & FAQ
How local SEO is priced.®
Local SEO is scoped to your locations, services and competition. We quote a fixed monthly fee or a fixed project fee after a call. Profile improvements can show within weeks, while stronger rankings usually take a few months.
What does a local SEO agency do?
A local SEO agency helps you show up when people nearby search for what you offer, in the map pack and normal results, through your Google Business Profile, area pages, reviews and listings.
How much do local SEO services cost?
It depends on your locations, services and competition. We quote a fixed monthly or project fee after a short call.
How long does local SEO take to work?
Improvements to your Google Business Profile can show within weeks. Stronger local rankings usually take a few months, depending on competition.
Can I pay Google to rank higher in the map pack?
No. Google says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. Results depend on relevance, distance and prominence.
Do reviews help local rankings?
Yes. Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking. We help you ask every customer fairly, as Google bans incentives and asking only happy customers.
We don't have a shop or office customers visit. Can we still rank locally?
Yes. A service-area business removes its address from its Business Profile and lists up to 20 service areas instead. Area pages on your site cover the rest.
Can you help businesses with several locations?
Yes. Each branch can have its own verified profile, as Google says not to create more than one profile per location, plus its own page on your site.
Are area pages bad for SEO?
Not if they are useful. Google treats near-identical city pages that funnel visitors to one place as doorway abuse, so each page we write carries real local detail.
